Get Involved
Our committees provide an essential role by ensuring there is sufficient dedicated, timely and enthusiastic attention paid to key services and programs.
Committees report to the board and assist in the effective fulfilment of its mandate to make The WLAO a vibrant, active voice for women in the profession and a vital resource for members in their pursuit of fulfilling and successful careers in law.
Our Committees
Advocacy
The WLAO advocates for equity, diversity, and change on behalf of women in the legal profession. This includes advancing the interest of women in law through initiating, promoting, and responding to changes in legislation and regulation and through liaison with the judiciary, government, and other stakeholders. More broadly, we strive to support all equity-seeking groups.
Finance
The Finance Committee is concerned with appropriate use and management of The WLAO finances, including the development of the annual budget and ensuring organizational resources are used to support The WLAO’s mission and membership.

Membership
The membership committee is responsible to assist the Board of directors in recruiting and renewing members and promoting an effective peer to peer recruitment and retention campaign. The committee is responsible for working on the annual membership campaign, establishing new chapters and supporting current chapters around the province, hosting promotional events like the Life Member Appreciation Reception, and seeking opportunities for The WLAO to connect with other organizations, groups or individuals for mutual gain.
Programming
The Programming committee takes care of all the behind the scene details to ensure WLAO members and the broader legal community have access to regular, engaging and accessible events. The committee meets regularly and provides a supportive environment to hone various skills like public speaking, networking and logistics management. The WLAO is committed to bringing value by providing both “member only” events as well as opportunities for the broader legal community to get involved.
Mentorship
The members of the Mentoring Committee voluntarily work collaboratively towards realizing the goals of the Committee, including developing inspiring programming, providing community outreach, matching mentees with mentors, and promoting the WLAO’s vision through impactful messaging.
The Mentoring Program is at the heart of the Mentoring Committee.
