Are We There Yet? A Panel Discussion on Pay Equity, Partnership, and Serving the Public.
This panel will discuss the ongoing challenges of senior women lawyers and women partners who work
in traditional law firm settings. These include the absence and/or secrecy around the maternity leave
and parental leave policies, disparity in pay even at the partnership level, and other reasons why women,
even partners, are choosing to start their own law firms. This has an impact on the public's ability to find a woman lawyer.
This is particularly pronounced in areas such as criminal law, civil sexual assault, family
etc. where members of the public may want a woman lawyer to represent them. Addressing these
issues may also increase the number of women in senior roles who may apply to the bench.
Speakers:
Erin Durant, Founding Partner of Durant barristers in Ottawa.
Robyn Doolittle, Journalist at the Globe and Mail,
Anna Matas, Litigator, Gillian Hnatiw & Co.
Moderated by: Jocelyn Tatebe, President of the Women's Law Association of Ontario
This free session is hosted by the Women’s Law Association of Ontario in partnership with The Law Society of Ontario. Visit Access to Justice Week for all events.
