Jennifer is the Practice Group Leader for the Insurance Law Group in Toronto and her expertise includes the defence of claims in the following areas: municipal and public entity liability; cyber and privacy breaches; technology E&O liability; general and commercial liability; motor vehicle; personal injury; property damage, and occupier’s liability. Her cyber and privacy practice includes advocacy and advice with respect to cyber insurance, privacy law compliance, mitigation of risk, breach response preparedness, breach response, investigation and reporting obligations, as well as defence of civil claims and cyber recovery. Of note, she has successfully recovered funds fraudulently diverted due to business email compromise.
Jennifer has particular expertise in the area of professional liability and has acted on behalf of professionals, including police officers, lawyers, pilots, building inspectors, physicians, nurses, technologists, chiropractors and denturists. She has defended professionals in civil litigation involving allegations of professional liability, negligent investigation, malicious prosecution, excessive force and defamation. She has also appeared as counsel on multiple disciplinary matters before various regulatory bodies, including professional colleges, acting as independent legal counsel or defending against allegations of professional misconduct. She also advises professionals with respect to matters of privacy law and cyber security. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she provided advice to health professionals and organizations regarding public health and regulatory compliance.
